Week #6 is in the books and fantasy football teams are looking forward to week #7. There is a lot to discuss this week so let’s jump right in to the action.
Bye Week
Teams with bye weeks are Bears and red-hot Bengals. The Bengals are tearing it up this season.
Mismatches
Mismatches for the week are Falcons vs. Titans, Panthers vs. Eagles, and Cardinals vs. Ravens. A possible mismatch could be the Steelers against the Chiefs. The Steelers 3rd string quarterback is starting. Landry showed glimpses of passing dominance and the Chiefs secondary is bad. Do you start Landry or Antonio Brown probably not, pretty risky, but start Bell for sure. He is going to have a huge week.
Quarterbacks
Looking at quarterbacks this week the top three ranked quarterbacks Palmer, Rivers, and Luck are ranked correctly. Luck should produce points against a horrible Saints secondary. Teams that drafted Luck are finally breathing a sigh of relief. This is a good example of holding onto a player that stinks up the first part of the season, but starts to do well in the second half of the season. The Colts are 3-3 right now, but they are in the crappy AFC South, so Luck probably will be scoring fantasy points in at least one playoff game. At this point in the season the Colts are not very impressive.
Brady is ranked fourth in several polls this week, but Brady could struggle this week. Brady is going against a tough Jet’s secondary. Take a hard look at whom you have on your bench. Yes, Brady is an obvious choice, but it is worth a look.
Newton has a great matchup against the Eagles. Newton should have fantasy point’s explosion.
Running Backs
The top four running backs Freeman, Bell, Gurley, and Peterson should tear it up this week. Foster is finally feeling better. For several weeks fantasy teams were really sweating whether to start Foster or bench him. He is healthy and should have a great week against the Dolphins. Ivory is ranked 6th on several RB polls. Ivory has done well for fantasy teams this year, but the Patriots are decent, not great, against the run. Don’t automatically start Ivory. Take a hard look at your roster. Next in the polls is Lynch. Huge question mark with Lynch. He did not have a good week last week. The 49er’s and Seahawks are talented teams that are underperforming. It is really hard to tell if either team and the player’s on these teams will have good weeks or not. Again really take a look at your roster and the waiver wire. If there are better options out there don’t hesitate to mix up your roster for this week’s matchup.
Tight Ends
No surprise Gronk is the #1 ranked TE, but is he really this week? The Jet’s defense is 4th best in the league against fantasy TE’s, plus the Patriot’s offensive line is banged up and they are relying more on the run, which means Gronk will be doing a lot of blocking. Don’t automatically start Gronk this week.
Gates should be the #1 ranked TE. He is matched against the worst defense, Raiders, against fantasy TE’s. Start Gates, don’t even think about it.
Olsen is going to have a tough game against a stingy Eagles defense, but he should still score some decent fantasy points.
Barnidge and Graham should have good weeks. As stated before, Seattle is a bit of gamble this week, so spend some time researching Graham. Sure he had a great game last week against the Panthers, but who knows with a underachieving Seattle team.
Kelce is ranked 6th and is receiving more attention since Charles is out. The Steeler’s defense has not done well against fantasy TE’s this season. However, with Charles out, the Steeler’s defense, which is performing way better than expected overall, will focus on Kelce. Do some research on this match up. Not an automatic start.
Wide Receivers
Hopkins is an obvious start, he is a fantasy points monster. Polls have Beckham Jr. second and this is a bit high considering he is fighting hamstring issues. The Dallas defense does suck, but they are 9th against fantasy receivers. Don’t automatically start him. Take a look at your other options.
Fitzgerald is a good argument for 1st or 2nd ranked WR this week. He should be a head of Hopkins. He is going against a Raven’s defense that is giving up the second most fantasy points to receivers. Start him. Don’t even think about it.
Antonio Brown is ranked eighth this week against a dream matchup of a crappy Chief’s defense that has been wonderful to fantasy receivers. However, Big Ben is not back and Landry is a huge question mark. Brown should not be started unless it is absolutely necessary until Big Ben gets back. Then start Brown every week, because the numbers are going to get stupid.
Defenses
There are two glaring problems with the polls regarding defenses this week. Why are the Seahawks ranked #2? This defense is not last year’s defense. If you have the Seahawks defense really look at the waiver wire or starting another defense.
The Steeler’s defense was not predicted to do well this season, but it is doing well. Ranked 16th, after holding the Cardinals to 13 points with two turnovers. Against a poor Chief’s offense expect more great things from this young emerging defense especially with Shazier back this week. Last time Shazier played he had 15 tackles.
We are starting into week #7 games. The playoff picture is starting to look more and more clear. Start thinking about trading and picking up players on the waiver wire that will be in the playoffs. Good luck this week and kicks some ass!
