Generally speaking the staff here at TTS tries to find A-Hole of the Week candidates that have done ridiculous, often times horrifying deeds to win the weekly title. Unfortunately there is a never-ending supply of A-Holes in the world.

This week we are going to lighten things up a bit and ask people on social media that turn other people’s videos, photos or text into big brother social media to ascend The Thrill Throne of Shame.

Social media rats are an epidemic that will eventually ruin social media. These social media rats take great pleasure in scanning their target social media platform looking for content that does not meet their standards.

First off who in the hell has time to police social media? Isn’t that job of big brother social media?

Secondly why do these social media rats think their criteria or standards apply to others on social media? Was there a secret meeting of the social media police and these folks were voted into a coveted, secret, social media rat guild?

We all have been surfing social media and found things that are not appealing to us. Personally I really don’t care what people had for dinner or how amazing their kids are doing in sports or events. If I have to see another flower photo or grainy sunset photo I will probably puke. Muscle heads are awesome at posting a never-ending supply of flexing in front of the mirror selfies. How many clever, supposedly funny signs that have been out for the last 20 years do we have to gaze upon before the joke becomes old? God forbid I stumble upon a penis pic.

Everyday we see things that we don’t like on social media. After years of participating in social media about 80% of what I see I could live without seeing. Do I report the personally offensive content to big brother social media? No! I keep on a surfing.

It is almost a game nowadays to find something on social media that is interesting, fresh, and cool to look at with excitement. Everything has been posted a million times. However, under no circumstances do I report anything. I keep surfing or if the content is too offensive I stop following the account.

Why do social media rats have such a problem with unfollowing, unfriending or whatever the social media platform calls not looking at someone’s account? It’s really easy to unfollow someone’s account. Normally at most it takes a couple clicks. It’s even a bit fun!

On most social media platforms, unless you are conducting a general search of hashtags, you are only seeing content that you made an effort to follow. Every social media platform is different, but let’s take Facebook for example. A person has to request to follow another person’s account and be accepted to see this person’s content. No one forced a social media rat to look at offensive content. The social media rat made an effort to follow an account. So why can’t this social media rat just unfollow the account and leave it at that? Why take the extra steps to report someone?

I am on a secret group on Facebook. This means a person must be approved by the secret group monitor to be allowed into the group. The entire process takes some time and effort. A couple days ago a member of the secret group, being a member is the only way to see the secret group content, reported some of the content to Facebook. Facebook has the power to come into a secret group and police the group as they see fit. Having big brother monitor the group and being able to censor the group kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a secret group. The group is really not secret anymore is it?

I have had several people on Facebook ask me to delete content or only issue the content in private. These people really have balls, because they have asked to view my account, I was kind enough to accept them to view my content, and now they are going to tell me what to put on my account. Really? I have never told someone what to post.

I could go on and on about the nonsense that goes on in the social media world. At times social media can be very frustrating, but for some reason it is very addictive. Once a person starts on social media you just have to keep looking.

Social media rats please take your place on The Thrill Throne of Shame! Once you are on the throne TTS will be providing you will a huge cup of “Get A Life!” Remember Thrill Seekers, Don’t Be An A-Hole!
