Week #13 is in the books and fantasy football teams are looking forward to week #14. There is a lot to discuss this week so let’s jump right in to the action.

Every team in the NFL has at least two losses except the Panthers who remain undefeated. It was amazing how quickly the Patriots fell out of grace. Hold on because the last few games of the season will create a roller coaster ride for fantasy football teams.

Bye Week

No byes for the rest of the season. You are in the clear and can relax about starting a player on a bye week.

Mismatches

Panthers vs. Falcons, Jets vs. Titans, Chiefs vs. Chargers, Broncos vs. Raiders, Packers vs. Cowboys, and Patriots, vs. Texans

At this point in the season there is a lot of data available. Start your best players based on 13 games of data.

Quarterbacks

This is the best week for ranking QB’s that I have seen this season. One glaring problem is Big Ben. After scoring 33 fantasy points last week does he really deserve to be ranked 14^th in most polls. I would place Big Ben in the top five at the very least. With three great receivers expect another great week even against a decent Bengals defense.

Running Backs

RB polls are a different story than QB polls. I agree Johnson should be in the top five, but ranked #1. He is a relatively unknown commodity and is going against a decent Vikings defense. Sure you should start him, but don’t think for a second he is secure #1 RB.

Rawls should do well this week against the Ravens. The Seahawks are finally starting to put an offense together. He did well last week against a stout Vikings defense and he should do well against a Ravens defense that is not as good as it has been in recent years.

Peterson just killed fantasy team owners last week. One point. OUCH! Only 8 attempts? What? Do the Vikings realize they have the best RB on their team? Sure they are playing catch up a lot and need to throw the rock, but give Peterson the ball. Trust me they will not make the same mistake this weekend.

Tight Ends

Eifert #2 against the Steelers this week? Hell NO! The Steeler’s defense held him to 39 yards in week #8. I personally would not start Eifert this week unless you have no other choice. He is returning from an injury and going against a decent defense that has his number.

Kelce #3? Again I don’t think so. Sure he is going against a Charger’s defense that is favorable to TEs making a lot of fantasy points, but Kelce is not producing decent points. Check your bench and waiver wire, because Kelce should not be started unless you have to.

Do you start Chandler or not? That is the question. The answer is no. He will probably start and Gronk will probably miss another week due to injury. However, don’t be tempted to start him because the Texans have done well against TEs this year. Look hard for another TE starter.

Wide Receivers

Hopkins is having an amazing season and is playing the porous Patriots secondary. However, if you dig deeper and really look at his fantasy point’s production he has not been that impressive. He has scored 17 points over the last two weeks. Is he an automatic start? No he is not. Look at who else you have on your roster or whom sitting on the waiver wire.

Risk Factors: Puppies under four months of age (before vaccinations are fully protective) and unvaccinated dogs are most at risk. Because canine distemper also occurs in wild animals, contact with wild animals may contribute to the spread of distemper to domestic dogs.

Signs and Symptoms of Distemper: Canine distemper causes symptoms in the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, brain and spinal cord. The appearance of symptoms and course of distemper can be variable, ranging from very mild illness to fatal disease. Any but not all of the following symptoms can be seen:

• Fever (1^st fever appears a few days after infection & might not be noticed, 2^nd fever comes a few days later when other symptoms begin to show up)

• Discharge from eyes and nose
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Vomiting & Diarrhea
• Coughing
• Labored Breathing
• Hardening of footpads and nose (distemper has been called hardpad disease)

Prevention of Distemper: Vaccination is effective at preventing distemper. Typically, the initial vaccine is followed by a booster shot about two weeks later.

 Even though the team at Kaawa’Pomaakaa rescues and saves animals, they also do what they can to protect and keep animals healthy.

Once it was learned that some puppies & homeless adult dogs were dying in Browning and at other Human Societies where some Browning dogs had gone, and once it was determined “Distemper” was the culprit, the Kaawa’Pomaakaa team got busy. They started setting up vaccine clinics almost immediately.

They took donations, they raised money from benefits and bake sales, and they dug into their own pockets to purchase the vaccine and syringes at discount. Word got around the community and many Distemper Vaccine Clinics were born. Syringes were LOADED and the shooting began.

Since Kaawa’Pomaakaa doesn’t have a building or a place to call home to conduct their business, they rely on the community. It may vary, but most of their clinics are held at the local volunteer Fireman Department Garage. The Kaawa’Pomaakaa team sets their folding table and borrowed laptop up along side two fire trucks, and work starts.

The vaccine clinic is very organized. All owner and dog names are entered into a computer spreadsheet & a vaccine certificate is given to the owner after the 2^nd shot or booster has been given. If the dog gets a vaccine, but has NO home, a description is entered, a picture of the homeless dog might be taken, and the certificate is kept on hand. If, for some reason the doggy doesn’t get back to the Fire Hall for the booster shot, a member of the team has been known to go to the owner’s house to administer the vaccine. WOW! Now that’s dedication.

All owners that bring their dogs to be vaccinated MUST stay in their car or hold their dog in their arms well away from other dogs. Since distemper is highly contagious, no dogs are allowed to intermingle with other dogs, just in case.

HENCE, the title of this article: DRIVE BY SHOOTING.

The team works in any weather. It doesn’t much matter if there is a blizzard, or if the weather is below zero, the team comes out in force. There is NO discussion among the members, it’s simply understood that the job MUST be done. There is NO compensation for any member on the team – its 100% volunteer.
