The Perfect Fantasy Football League

Please check out: http://TheThrillSociety.com It’s wicked Thrilling!

I don’t know about you, but I play fantasy football. It is the only fantasy sport I play. It is simple and easy, set your team once a week for a Thursday through Monday and reset it the next week. It isn’t like baseball or basketball, it is just one game a week and easily manageable. I play in different leagues all having little quirks here and there but I am here to write about my league. The one I set up and run. It is by far the best league EVER. Not because I am bias but because of the rules we have set up. So I am here to share it with you and you most definitely can use it. So you got your notebooks out, good, let’s get started.
Couple points to remember through this whole process. There are 32 teams. The gold standards for offensive players are running backs strive for 100 yards, receivers strive for a 100 yards, quarterbacks strive for 300 yards, a touchdown is worth 6 points in an NFL game. NFL offensives no longer rely on a single running back (unless you are the Bears) and QB’s were averaging 35 passing attempts in 2014. Offensive stats are up, so long gone are the days of drafting the top RB and WR. The second and third string RB and WR are reaching the 100 yard games. These are all factors in the perfect league.

Now let’s move to recruitment of your members. We are going to look for 16 members of your league. 16? Yes, 16! There are 32 teams that means two QB’s a team, two D/ST, two TE, and two K a team. There are plenty of RB’s and WR’s to go around. Remember our points from earlier, second and third stringers are racking up points. I personally struggle with 10 or 12 in a league. It makes no sense to have players just sitting on your bench and not willing to part with them just because you have them. Which brings me to my next point. Limit the benches. You should start 1 QB, 1RB, 1RB/WR, 1 WR, 1 WR/TE, 1 TE, D/ST and K. You set you limits on how many QB’s (2) RB’s (3) WR (3) TE (2) D/ST (2) K (2) you can draft. I do recommend allowing either one more RB or one more WR on your team. That is it. You know you have played in leagues were some yahoo has 5 RB’s and wont trade a single one unless you give up your star QB or WR.

When recruiting the members, you want to recruit people who want to come back next year. You want to create a keeper league. The only way this can happen is at least 80% of your league returns. And in this keeper league you are allowed to keep from the 4thround on down. Never higher than 4th round. Allow a max. keeping of 2 years after the initial draft of the player. You should be rewarded for lucking out on a player taken in the 10th round and be allowed to keep that player for 2 years after the season.
Change your scoring to reflect the gold standard of 100 yard RB, 100 WR and 300 WR and please make each touchdown 6 points. Just because a QB throws the ball shouldn’t mean we only give him 4 or 3 points. It makes no sense.
With all that said I am going to give you the icing on the cake. With a keeper league and the same participant’s year in and year out (yes there will be some changes but find the core group) this nugget is what makes my league the best. Let me set the stage. It is week 7 and you are sitting at a solid 1 and 6 or 2 and 5. Your team sucks for whatever reason, drafting, injuries, deflated balls, DUI’s, aggravated assaults, domestic violence, marijuana, I could go on but you get the point. What do you have to play for? If your league has a high score at the end of the season or weekly high scores, than that is something, but really what do you have to play for? You hate the fact that your team sucks and your fantasy football season is over halfway through the regular season. So here is what I am proposing in your keeper league. Trade players for draft picks in next year’s draft. For example, two years ago in my league I was 3 and 4 and really not winning games. I knew even if I made the playoffs, which was unlikely, I would lose first round. I just didn’t have the team. So what did I do, I ship Jamaal Charles and my 8thround pick (the pick is to balance out the draft the following year) to a league owner, who is ready to win now, for his first round pick in the next draft. I have to build for the future. I was out of the season, but I was still in engaged. I could fire sale my team and build for the future. It is brilliant and works very well when teams start shopping around players for picks. Now teams can trade players, but they can also trade picks. Which means your season is not really over, but always beginning if you are not winning.
Last but not least, if you implement the trading of the picks, you have to have a version of a live draft. Because you have to be able to record what happened last year and who picks when and for whom. So you have to have a league commissioner who is willing to input the picks from all the owners at the end of the draft and in the order. Not hard just time consuming.
Some things I forgot to mention is I have 4 divisions, I have 8 playoff spots (division winners automatically in and the next 4 best records), I do my own schedule where each division plays within itself the first 3 weeks and the last 3 weeks (because that way you get a crack at the division leader twice) and I pay out high score of the year. Keeps people engage even when they don’t make the playoffs. What more can I say, it is the best. Don’t believe me? This has been going on for 13 years now. Live draft every Labor Day weekend. We have people that call in from Detroit, Phoenix, Chicago, and Denver. We make it work and look forward to it every year.

Happy 2016 Football season.

Football Gambling Rules

Please check out: http://TheThrillSociety.com It’s wicked Thrilling!

With football season rapidly approaching I figured I would lay out my own personal rules of betting in case you have gambling problem like me and your strategy isn’t working. I have learned these guidelines from other gambling junkies, bookies, sports book workers, and just plain old dumb luck types.
I lived in Nevada for five years. What a state! It takes you a solid good six months to a year of living there to block out mentally that there are slot machines in your grocery store. And I am not talking about mom and pop grocery stores; I am talking about chain grocery stores. Crazy thing about it, people would be playing them. Before you even think of accusing me as being one, I can honestly say I never stooped to that level. Thankfully.
I got my first taste of sports betting during my first football season living in Nevada. Boy did I like it. People can say that fantasy enhances a game because you have more to cheer for.  Want an even bigger rush? Drop a $100 on a team to win or cover the spread and watch how you hang on every play from the opening kickoff to the final play of the game. I have won and lost hundreds of dollars on a game ending field goal, made or missed, interception, punt, fumble, dropped pass or safety. It happens that fast.

For example, do you remember this past Superbowl? Do you remember the pass that Russell Wilson threw to Kearse where he managed to magically pull it down, but didn’t manage to get it in the end zone? Well if he hadn’t been so stunned that he caught the ball and could have gotten into the end zone. Seattle fans would still be celebrating! Plus winner, winner, chicken dinner for me. It wouldn’t have mattered what New England did next. I would have cashed in a mere $10 bet for $560 dollars. I was going to make it rain like a NFL rookie at a strip club (not really but it sounded cool).

So let’s cover some simple guidelines to help make your gambling experience a positive one.

thrill of sports photo
1) NEVER, EVER bet on your team! It is a double whammy. You never want to put that type of pressure on the team you love. Don’t bet for them or against them.  Just stay away. If they win the game, but don’t cover the spread, you will be mad. If they lose the game and don’t cover the spread, you will be mad. I can’t state this strongly enough! Never bet on your team!
2) Always take the home underdog to cover the spread, not to win. This is a common rule to sport’s book pros. They love the home team underdog to COVER the spread. Wait, just to make sure you are reading what I am typing, they bet them to COVER the spread not win the game. In other words, don’t take the Raiders to beat the Broncos at home. However, t it is a good bet they will cover the spread.
3) If you have to rationalize or convince yourself that a team is due to have a good or bad game stay the hell away from the bet! Nothing hampers a gambler’s thinking more than rationalizing things. After they lose you will scream loudly, “What the hell was I was thinking!” However, you will find yourself doing it again next week.
4) Take into account the history of two teams. Look back at what has happen the past couple of years in terms of score and it will be a great indicator of this year. I know this one will force you to hit the google machine, but in the long run, it does really help.
5)  Stay away from the popular games.  This is especially important at the college level. Each week there are over 50 games played in college football. Do you really think the odds makers have the time to accurately breakdown each game? No way! They focus on big money games, big name teams, big booster teams, and individual game such as a Thursday night or Monday night game.
6) Finally, and let’s keep this one between us. In a college game, if you don’t think the big boosters and the college coaches know the spread of their team when playing a creampuff,  then I guess you live in a cave and should just enjoy the view from your mountain top. Actually I can’t believe I just said that out loud. Move over hermit! I am coming to join you before I am assassinated by boosters from the SEC or anyone from the state of Florida, Oklahoma or Texas.

Good luck! I hope my 6 tips about football betting help you win some major bucks!

Best Situational QB’s

http://thethrillsociety.com is your link to Thrilling Stuff! This article is just a taste!

Lets be honest here, the quarterback is the most important position on a football team. Since we were kids, we always had the most athletic and usually the tallest kid as QB on our playground team. So I figured I would do a list of the best situational QBs that have ever played the game of football.
the thrill of sports pic
Top Fantasy QB: Aaron Rodgers. The guy is fantasy football players dream. High completion percentage, low interceptions, can throw deep with accuracy, capable of 4 touchdowns and 350 yards a game. Basically if you are playing against him in fantasy football, you feel you could have a 50-50 chance of winning.
Runner UP: Randal Cunningham. They guy did it all, ran, passed, never got sacked, just chucked and ducked. He was the fantasy QB before fantasy really got popular.
Top Regular Season QB: Peyton Manning. Is there really any other QB during the regular season that did better, that each time you watched him play you were confident in his abilities to win a regular season game. (We are talking Colt Peyton and first year Denver Bronco Peyton, not that shell of a Peyton playing now).
Runner up: Brett Farve. I am personally not a fan of Brett Farve, but the guy won games. He wasn’t afraid to throw the game-winning touchdown or the game costing INT, he just threw it. I really thought Brett Farve could win every regular season game year in and year out.

Top Playoff QB: Tom Brady. Say what you want about, Tom Brady but the guy wins playoff games consistently. He can beat you in a shootout, he can win a close one, and he can blow you out. Every playoff game he played, I would never bet against him and on sheer principal.
Runner Up: John Elway. Another QB that I am just not a fan of and I even grew up in Colorado. Elway won playoff games with his arm, with his legs, with just plain will. I cheered so hard for him to lose every playoff game possible, and the guy just somehow won time in and time out. I am willing to bet that you will never see an Elway Jersey in Cleveland. I believe it is a state law and could get you 10 to 25 years jail time if ever caught wearing one there.
the thrill of sports
Super Bowl QB: Joe Montana. He was never the biggest, fastest, strongest arm, but there is no QB I would want leading my team in a Super Bowl. The guy just won the big game. He was calm and cool. He utilized what he had. He was accurate, efficient and handled the big stage better than anyone else. Montana will always be the best big game quarterback of all time.
Runner Up: Terry Bradshaw. I saw him more as a big game manager. Didn’t make mistakes and had a great defenses to bail him out even if he did. You still have to give him credit for going 4 and 0 in Super Bowls.
Have a better QB in one of these spots, then lets hear it.

Fantasy Football Week #15

http://thethrillsociety.com is your link to Thrilling Stuff! This article is just a taste!

Week #14 is in the books and fantasy football teams are looking forward to week #15. There is a lot to discuss this week so let’s jump right in to the action.
The Panthers are the only undefeated team in the NFL. Several teams that dominated the early part of the year are starting to show signs of weakness like the Packers, Broncos, and Bengals. Keep this is in mind when you are finalizing your roosters this week. It matters who is strong now, not who was strong.

Bye Week

No byes for the rest of the season. You are in the clear and can relax about starting a player on a bye week.

Mismatches

Jets vs. Cowboys, Chiefs vs. Ravens, Vikings vs. Bears, Patriots vs. Titans, Panthers vs. Giants, Seahawks vs. Browns, Bengals vs. 49ers, and the Cardinals vs. Eagles,
At this point in the season there is a lot of data available. Start your best players based on 14 games of data. Take a hard look at what teams are hot right now. The Seahawks, Cardinals, Panthers, and Steelers are all peaking at the right time.

Quarterbacks

Carr is ranked 5th this week going against the Packers. The Raiders are a team that can be good or can be horrible. Carr has scored 13 fantasy points in each of the last two games. I am not saying that you should not start him, just take a hard look at quarterbacks you have available.
Big Ben is ranked 11th in several polls this week. He is going against a stout Bronco’s defense that is the best in the league, however the Steelers are on the rise and Big Ben has a lot of weapons. Don’t hesitate to start him.
The rest of the quarterback rankings look pretty solid. Focus on how many points players have scored in the last three games.

Running Backs

Gurley should be ranked higher in the RB polls. He is a no brainer starter against the Bucs who are allowing 120.5 yards per game. He did sit out practices earlier in the week, but he should be ready to go this weekend.
Williams is part of the most productive fantasy backfield this season, but he is going against the strongest defense against the rush, the Broncos at 3.2 yards/rush. I am not saying to sit Williams, but look at who you have available. Passing will be the key weapon of the Steeler’s this week and I expect only mediocre points from Williams.

Tight Ends

Gronk’s knee injuries are behind him and will feast on the weak Eagle’s defense. A #1 ranking may be based more on his past production, but he will have a good weekend of fantasy point’s production.
Olsen is ranked #2 this week. He is listed as questionable so if you plan to start him delay finalizing your rooster as long as possible in case he gets listed as injured. He is going against a Giant’s defense that has given up the 3rd most fantasy points to TE’s so if he is healthy this could be a good points weekend for him.
Walker is ranked 4th this week in the polls. He has the most catches for TEs in the league, but it is not adding up to a lot of fantasy points. Take a hard look at who you have available. Walker is not an automatic start even though he is having the best season of his career at 31.
