Maldives – Luxury Personified

http://thethrillsociety.com is your link to Thrilling Stuff! This article is just a taste!

Spectacular white-sand beaches and stunning bright blue waters are the two elements that make Maldives stand out among the many beaches of the world. Almost all of the 1200 islands of Maldives have consistently spectacular beaches which attract millions of people to this marvellous country. The remote island located on the Indian Ocean is often seen as paradise on earth by many travelers who have revelled in the luxuries of the Maldives.
It is astounding that even though the island is remotely located there is a lot of luxury that is offered by the hotels located at Male, the capital of the country. The inhospitable nature of the islands is in stark contrast to the friendliness of the locals. With so few resources locally available at the islands it is remarkable how the world’s most luxurious hotel properties flourish here.

History

If you are planning to visit Maldives, understanding the history of the island would help bond you to the place. The country, which is now a republic once was ruled by Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who reigned over the island with extremely strict rules. He was elected five times by the public in elections that are believed to be rigged. In 2008, international intervention led to fair elections and Gayoom had to step down as opposition leader Mohammed Nasheed took his place. In 2012 Nasheed was forced to resign and Mohammed Waheed Hassan was appointed president of Maldives.
The Tsunami of 2004 had swept away the homes of more than 15,000 people who lived in Maldives. The country received almost $400 million in the form of aid, and most of the amount was used to re-build homes and infrastructure for people who were left homeless. The country has gradually recovered from the damages caused by the Tsunami and now, only 1,600 people out of the 15,000 live in temporary shelters.

Where to Stay?

The country boasts of some of the most luxurious hotels in the world. Every hotel competes with the other by offering services that will make you feel on the top of the world. Private butlers and in-room massages are examples of the exclusive services offered by the hotels. If you are looking for a glamorous tropical getaway then these hotels wouldn’t let you down.
