A law-school dropout who worked up the ranks with her outstanding abilities to become the CEO of Hewlett Packard and named as one of the most powerful women in the world by Forbes is something that not everyone can take pride. Her fight with cancer and the fact that she lost an adult daughter to addiction is a reflection of her resilient nature.

Being a woman with an exceptional career record, makes her a good presidential candidate. While gender equality is greatly regarded for among the people, it is a great idea to have a woman compete with Hillary Clinton. She will be able to connect to the women and make a bigger difference as a president.

She had started One Woman Initiative (OWI) in 2008 which describes itself as an “International Women’s Empowerment Fund”. The organization aimed at empowering women in Muslim dominated countries. The organization partnered with Opportunity International in the year 2013 to finance the education and training of two million poverty-stricken women. She also chairs Good360, which helps people in disaster stricken areas by donating excessive merchandise.

Fiorina has first-hand experience of real-world issues like outsourcing, lay-offs and mergers. These are things that every business in the world has to keep in mind and a leader who has handled these issues already can ascertain a better future for the people of the country.

Fiorina has seen many challenges in her personal and professional life. The fact that she has successfully fought them and stands unperturbed by them shows her irrepressible spirit to achieve great heights. She stands poised to answer questions raised by the people with a surprisingly calm demeanour. Her run for the Senate seat from California may have been unsuccessful in terms of the seat, but the experience, and the failure has fuelled her spirit which shows that she can take up the president’s office and face world-issues nonchalantly.

Her book “Rising to the Challenge” outlines a framework of decision which may sound very basic to the business leaders but politicians and governments may find it hard to implement. Her role in Hewlett Packard made her take tough decisions and one of those became the cause for the end of her career in HP. The fact that she understands the criticality of decisions and has chosen to draw crucial lessons from failure and see them in a positive light gives us reason to believe she can lead the country successfully.
